Luna 10 Years by Lele Saveri
September 2014 was an eventful month for Lele Saveri.
âI lost my wallet. I lost my passport. My bike got stolen,â the New Yorkâbased photographer and community organizer remembers over Zoom. âAll of these things seemed [to be happening at once]. I was like, I wonder if itâs the moon?â He pulled together visual evidence from the month and compiled it into a zineâa practice thatâs followed him since his childhood in Rome and led him to co-found the cult art collective 8-Ball Community in 2012âdubbing it Luna. âOnce the next full moon came, I was like, Should I make another one?â he continues. âOkay, letâs make another one.â(Source)

In October 2014, Saveri began self-publishing a zine on the occasion of every full moon. For each issue, he selects photographs taken during the previous lunar cycle, makes 4x6 inch prints, and lays them out on blank folded sheets of paper, reproducing 20 to 30 copies with black-and-white Xerox machines. The majority of them are given away for free, with a few sold at bookstores or book fairs.

Luna is a visual record of the moonâs influence on the photographerâs personal life.
The selected images document Saveri's experiences, encounters, and surroundings from that month, covering subjects like street scenesâprimarily in New York City, where Saveri works in Emergency Medical Services âportraits of friends and strangers, street protests, and quiet, often overlooked corners of everyday life.

Lele Saveri is an Italian-born photographer and community organizer based in New York City. Primarily working as a documentarian through photography, video, and self-published works, he draws most of his inspiration from counterculture, city life, public interaction, and social uprisings.
Saveriâs work has been exhibited in various institutions, including MoMA (New York), FOAM (Amsterdam), La Triennale (Milan), the Brooklyn Museum, among others.
